Title:
Apple Blossom Festival: Apple Pie Baking Contest
When:
05.03.2012  9.00.am
Where:
Marker-Miller Orchards - Winchester
Category:
May 2012

Description

Once again, “peel your apples” will be heard on Thursday, May 3, at Marker-Miller Orchards Farm Market located at 3035 Cedar Creek Grade, Winchester, VA.

The contest was first held in 1952 with Betty Crocker as one of the original judges. Held yearly until the early 1980’s this contest took a break, but is back again. We are looking for the best homemade apple pie. Nothing is as comforting, as nostalgic, or as a ”peeling” as a freshly baked apple pie, and how appropriate during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®. Join us for this year’s Apple Pie Baking Contest. Try your recipe!

Description

Relax while sitting on the front porch in rocking chairs and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.  Or go on an adventure, by purchasing containers and going out to pick your very own fruits and vegetables. Marker-Miller has picnic tables, a farm market, a playground and barrel "cow train" for children, and a bakery with famous apple cider donuts. Wrap up your visit with a stop by the “Sweets Shop” where you can select from homemade fudge, hand dipped ice cream, or cider slushees. Seasonal activities include wine tastings, wagon rides, and festivals.
